Babylove – A New Column

Contrariamente al resto del mondo il 31 Dicembre dell’anno scorso non ero intenta a preparare il cenone della Vigilia, ma ho deciso di passare la giornata al mare. Con un bel sole fuori stagione, sono partita al mattino presto, destinazione Liguria. Dopo un meraviglioso pranzo a base di pesce e una passeggiata in spiaggia, non potevo non chiamare quella che è stata per lungo tempo una compagna di avventure: Ilaria, la mia ex assistente, che da qualche tempo ormai ha abbandonato Milano e il mondo della moda per tornare nel suo luogo del cuore, Chiavari, dove ha costruito famiglia. La “Piccola Ligure” ha lavorato con me per cinque anni, accompagnandomi su tutti i set, dove portava con sé un buon umore che coinvolgeva tutto il team. Disordinata, un difetto che condividevamo, ma con una grande passione per il lavoro… una qualità che ci accomunava 🙂 Aveva preso il monolocale di fronte l’ufficio, quindi per me era una di casa, insieme al suo cane Eva, che adoravo sebbene lasciasse peli ovunque. Ripensando a quei tempi, ogni tanto sento la mancanza della sua spensieratezza.

È stato commovente ritrovarla mamma della bellissima Ginevra, e divertente vederla ancora confusa nel nuovo ruolo, piena di domande su cosa sia giusto o sbagliato.
Da lì mi è venuta un’idea, dare spazio su Scimparello alla voce di una giovane madre e, dato che in redazione nessuno si sente particolarmente vicino al mondo del newborn (non parlate di bebè a Enrico, per esempio e Patricia ha i figli adolescenti) chi meglio di Ilaria può tenere una rubrica dedicata a questo tema? Consigli e piccole riflessioni accompagnate da foto di Ginevra, che è perfetta nel ruolo di neo-modella. Sono contenta di questa nuova pagina di Scimparello, d’altronde Ilaria ha visto un po’ nascere il magazine, quindi questo rappresenta un ritorno a casa – ma sempre a distanza, lei mi ha assicurato che dal suo mare non si sposta più.

Essere mamma è..?

ILARIA

Una sfida meravigliosa. Mi piace ripetermi che mamme non si nasce ma si diventa! Se mi fermo un secondo a pensare, ancora fatico a credere di esserlo per davvero. Ogni giorno cresco anche io con Ginevra.

Cosa hai provato appena hai visto Ginevra?

ILARIA

Una gioia immensa, una sensazione unica a metà tra lo stupore e lo stordimento. Mille dubbi e domande su come accudirla, allattarla, cambiarla… poi ad un tratto tutto passa, o quasi, e non puoi più fare a meno della tua piccina.

La sfida più dura che hai affrontato sino ad ora?

ILARIA

L’allattamento. Tra le pressioni subite in ospedale e i mille tentavi fatti una volta arrivata a casa, è stata davvero dura. Ma alla fine ho tenuto duro e ci siamo riuscite.

SCIMPARELLO

Eva, il tuo golden retriever, come ha accolto la nuova arrivata?

ILARIA

Avete presente i video che si vedono su Instagram dove la famiglia felice entra in casa con il bebè e il cane corre a leccargli subito i piedini? Ecco… scordateveli. Eva fa finta che Ginevra non esista tuttora. Detronizzata da una piccola umana, è profondamente offesa per il torto subito. Come non esserlo dopo 13 anni passati ad essere l’unica principessa della famiglia. Confido che il rapporto possa migliorare con lo svezzamento, magari tutto il cibo che cadrà dal seggiolone le unirà.

Cosa avresti voluto che ti dicessero prima di avere un figlio?

ILARIA

Vivi alla giornata e non farti condizionare da chi dispensa consigli a gratis, credendosi il massimo esperto in allattamento, sonno, vizi… All’inizio ho un pò sottovalutato quanto la privazione del sonno potesse davvero incidere sulla lucidità della mia mente. Ma una volta settato il cervello, il corpo va in loop. È il super potere delle mamme, la resistenza.

Quando riesci a ritagliati un momento per te, cosa fai?

ILARIA

Niente pisolino, ma una sessione di fitness o un aperitivo con le amiche. Quando ho un paio d’ore vado a camminare o correre, a Chiavari abbiamo una rete di sentieri collinari meravigliosi e ne approfitto spesso. Se il tempo è limitato, allora opto per manicure e l’immancabile rassegna stampa!

È cambiato il rapporto con il tuo corpo dopo la gravidanza?

ILARIA

Sicuramente non è stato facile accettarsi con i chili accumulati in 9 mesi. Sono sempre stata in forma e ho sempre praticato diversi sport contemporaneamente, ma quando sono rimasta incinta ho dovuto limitare molto l’attività sportiva. I momenti di down sono stati diversi ma, per la prima volta nella mia vita, ho deciso di accettarmi così e di provare ad amare il mio corpo senza avere fretta di rientrare nei jeans skinny pre gravidanza, un corpo che ha subito notevoli cambiamenti ma che ha fatto cresce e nascere una bambina sana e morbidosa (Baby G pesava 3.5kg!).

Un trucco da svelare alle neo mamme come te?

ILARIA

Perseverare. Non abbattersi alle prime difficoltà, chiedere aiuto senza dover dimostrare a tutti i costi di dovercela fare.

SCIMPARELLO

Di quale accessorio per newborn non puoi più fare a meno?

ILARIA

Il ciuccio assolutamente. Dalle prime notti in ospedale non lo abbiamo abbandonato più. Il nostro preferito è quello di Bibs. Ma anche il marsupio, comodissimo quello di BabyBjörn, naturalmente io ce l’ho maculato!

C’è un prodotto di cui ti sei innamorata?

ILARIA

Il tiralatte automatico della Medela, comodo e pratico, lo porto con me in ufficio e mi aiuta molto. Utilizzo spesso l’olio idratante Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse e la crema tea tree oil di Just, perfetta per la mia dermatite.

Oltre ad essere mamma, hai anche un lavoro molto impegnativo, come riesci a conciliarlo con la famiglia?

ILARIA

Ginevra ha 4 mesi e io sono già rientrata a lavoro, in realtà non ho mai smesso. Ho corretto comunicati stampa già dal secondo giorno dopo il cesareo. Vi chiederete di cosa mi occupo… No, non salvo il mondo, ma lavoro come addetta stampa nel comune dove vivo e rappresento l’amministrazione attualmente in carica.

La cosa che ti diverte di più di tua figlia.

ILARIA

Sembra non apprezzare molto il mio look. Da quando sono tornata dal parrucchiere con le meches bionde anni 90’, in perfetto stile Gery Halliwell, non fa altro che fissarle e guardarmi con una faccia che pare voler dire “oh mamma, ma cosa ti sei fatta?”

Contrary to the rest of the world, last year on December 31st  I wasn’t intent on preparing New Year’s Eve dinner, but I decided to spend the day at the beach. With a beautiful unseasonal sun, I left early in the morning, destination Liguria. After a wonderful seafood lunch and a walk on the beach, I couldn’t help but call who has been a long companion of adventures: Ilaria, my former assistant, who left Milan and the world of fashion years ago to return to her place of heart, Chiavari, where she built her family. The little Ligurian worked with me for five years, as a stylist assistant on fashion shootings, where she was bringing a positive mood that involved the whole team. Messy, a flaw we have in common, but with a great passion for work… a quality we shared 🙂 She lived in the studio apartment across from the office, so she was a sort of family to me, along with her dog Eva, whom I adored even though she left hair everywhere. Thinking back to those times, I occasionally miss her carefree attitude. 

It was touching to see her again as mom of the beautiful Ginevra, and funny to see her still confused in the new role, full of questions about what’s right or wrong. From there I had an idea, to give space on Scimparello to the voice of a young mother and, given that in the editorial staff no one feels particularly close to the world of newborn (don’t talk about babies to Enrico, for example) who better than Ilaria can hold a column dedicated to this theme? Advices and small reflections accompanied by photos of Ginevra, who is perfect in the role of newborn model. I’m happy with this new chapter of Scimparello, after all Ilaria has seen the birth of the magazine, so this represents a sort of “back home” – but always from distance, she assured me that she won’t move from her place anymore.

To be a mum is..?

ILARIA

A wonderful challenge. I like to tell myself that no one is born to be mothers, but you learn! If I stop for a second and think, I still find it hard to believe that I really am one. Every day I grow up with Ginevra too.

What have you thought the first time you saw Ginevra?

ILARIA

An immense joy, a unique sensation halfway between amazement and stupor. A thousand doubts and questions about how to take care of her, breastfeed her, change her… then all of a sudden everything passes, or almost, and you can’t do without your little one anymore.

Toughest challenge you’ve faced so far?

ILARIA

Breastfeeding. Between the pressures I endured in the hospital and the thousands of attempts made once I got home, it was really hard. But in the end I hung in there and we succeeded.

Eva, your golden retriever, how she welcomed the newcomer?

ILARIA

You know those videos you see on Instagram where the happy family walks into the house with the baby and the dog immediately runs to lick their feet? Here… forget about them. Eva pretends that Ginevra still doesn’t exist. Dethroned by a small human, she is deeply offended by the wrong she has suffered. How could she not be, after 13 years of being the only princess in the family. I trust the relationship will improve with weaning, maybe all the food that will fall from the high chair will let them befriend.

What do you wish the others would have told you before you had a child?

ILARIA

Live for the day and don’t be influenced by those who dispense free advices, believing themselves to be the ultimate experts in breastfeeding, sleep, vices… At first I slightly underestimated how much sleep deprivation could really affect the clarity of my mind. But once the brain is set, the body goes on a loop. That’s the super power of moms, resilience.

When you can carve out a moment for yourself, what do you do?

ILARIA

No nap, but a fitness session or an aperitif with friends. When I have a couple of hours I go walking or running, in Chiavari we have a wonderful network of hilly trails and I often take advantage of them. If time is limited, then I opt for manicures and the inevitable press review!

Has your relationship with your body changed since pregnancy?

ILARIA

It definitely wasn’t easy to accept myself with the pounds I accumulated in 9 months. I’ve always been fit and played several sports at the same time, but when I got pregnant I had to limit my sports activity a lot. The downs were different but, for the first time in my life, I decided to accept myself like this and try to love my body without being in a hurry to get back into my pre-pregnancy skinny jeans, a body that has undergone significant changes but has grown and given birth to a healthy and soft baby girl (Baby G weighed 3.5kg!).

A trick to reveal to new moms like you?

ILARIA

Persevere. Do not give up at the first difficulties, ask for help without having to prove at all costs that you have to make it.

Which newborn accessory can’t you live without anymore?

ILARIA

The pacifier absolutely. From our first few nights in the hospital, we haven’t given it up. Our favorite is the one from Bibs. But also the fanny pack, very comfortable the one of BabyBjörn, of course I have an animal printed one!

Is there a product you’ve fallen in love with?

ILARIA

Medela’s automatic breast pump, convenient and practical, I take it with me to the office and it really helps. I often use Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse moisturizing oil and Just’s tea tree oil cream, which is perfect for my dermatitis.

SCIMPARELLO

In addition to being a mom, you also have a very demanding job, how do you balance that with your family?

ILARIA

Ginevra is 4 months old and I am already back to work, in fact I never stopped. I’ve been correcting press releases since the second day after the C-section. You may wonder what I do… No, I don’t save the world, but I work as a press officer in the municipality where I live and represent the current administration.

The thing you enjoy most about your daughter.

ILARIA

She doesn’t seem to like my look very much. Ever since I came back from the hairdresser with the 90′ blonde streaks, in perfect Gery Halliwell style, all she does is stare at me with a face that seems to express “oh mom, what have you done to yourself?“
