Richard Avedon. Relationships.

Questa è una chiamata per i fashionistas di tutto il mondo e non solo! Apre al Palazzo Reale di Milano, il 22 Settembre (nel mezzo della fashion week meneghina) la mostra dedicata al fotografo Richard Avedon: Relationships, che ripercorre gli oltre sessant’anni di carriera, attraverso 106 immagini, di un maestro indiscusso della fotografia.

La rassegna consentirà di indagare il metodo innovativo di Avedon che, da un lato ha rivoluzionato la fotografia di moda, trasformando le modelle da soggetti statici ad attrici protagoniste del set (gli appassionati vedranno esposta ad esempio la celebre Dovima con gli Elefanti del 1955), dall’altro, con i suoi sorprendenti ritratti in bianco e nero e spesso di grande formato, ha rivelato il lato psicologico più interiore delle celebrità ritratte: da icone del cinema come Marylin Monroe e Brigitte Bardot a scrittori come Truman Capote, da presidenti come Eisenhower a star del balletto come Nureyev.

Una sezione della retrospettiva, visitabile fino al 29 Gennaio 2023, è dedicata alla collaborazione tra Richard Avedon e Gianni Versace, iniziata con la campagna per la collezione P/E 1980, che decretava l’esordio dello stilista, fino a quella della collezione P/E 1998, la prima firmata da Donatella Versace. Il rapporto fra questi due geni creativi dimostra come l’intesa tra designer e fotografo possa produrre immagini destinate a durare per sempre, ben oltre la stagionalità della moda, per rivoluzionare invece la comunicazione globale.

This is a call for fashionistas from all over the world and beyond! Opening at the Palazzo Reale in Milan on 22 September (in the middle of Milan Fashion Week) is the exhibition dedicated to photographer Richard Avedon: Relationships, which traces the more than 60-year career of an undisputed master of photography through 106 images.

The exhibition will make it possible to investigate the innovative method of Avedon who, on the one hand, revolutionised fashion photography, transforming models from static subjects to actresses protagonists of the set (enthusiasts will see the famous Dovima with Elephants from 1955, for example), and on the other, with his surprising black and white and often large format portraits, revealed the innermost psychological side of the celebrities portrayed: from movie icons like Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot to writers like Truman Capote, from presidents like Eisenhower to ballet stars like Nureyev.

A section of the retrospective, which can be visited until 29 January 2023, is dedicated to the collaboration between Richard Avedon and Gianni Versace, which began with the campaign for the S/S 1980 collection, which marked the designer’s debut, up to the S/S 1998 collection, the first designed by Donatella Versace. The relationship between these two creative geniuses shows how the understanding between designer and photographer can produce images destined to last forever, far beyond the seasonality of fashion, to revolutionise global communication instead.
