Shana Laub – Meet the Buyer

Quando ho scoperto Shan&Toad, un e-commerce con sede nel sud della California, ho apprezzato molto l’esclusiva selezione creata dalla fondatrice Shana Laub. Poi l‘ho conosciuta di persona durante la fiera Playtime a Parigi. Lei era in dolce attesa, della sua sesta figlia. Una donna meravigliosa, piena di energia e positività, una forza creativa e mamma di 6 bambine…Wow!
Ha messo insieme marchi affermati come MSGM Kids, Stella McCartney Kids, Kenzo e Caramel, oltre a brand cool e di tendenza come Carbon Soldier, Caroline Bosmans, Paade Mode, Unionini, Tambere e Wolf e Rita … non c’è da stupirsi se Shan&Toad sta diventando il punto di riferimento per i genitori alla moda!
“I nostri vestiti sono raffinati e insoliti. Siamo orgogliosi di fornire ai nostri clienti pezzi unici classici ma allo stesso tempo contemporanei ”, spiega Shana, che ha aperto la boutique dopo la nascita della sua terza figlia e lo shopping per i bambini è diventato piuttosto un hobby per lei.
Abbiamo chiesto a Shana alcune domande sui sogni e di indicarci i suoi “dream outfit”.

When I discovered Shan & Toad, an e-commerce based in Southern California, I really enjoyed the exclusive selection created by the founder Shana Laub. Then I met her in person during the Playtime fair in Paris. She was pregnant with her sixth daughter. A wonderful woman, full of energy and positivity, a creative force and mother of 6 girls … Wow!
She has put together established brands such as MSGM Kids, Stella McCartney Kids, Kenzo and Caramel, as well as cool and trendy labels such as Carbon Soldier, Caroline Bosmans, Paade Mode, Unionini Tambere, Wolf and Rita … no wonder if Shan & Toad is becoming the reference point for trendy parents!
“Our clothes are refined and unusual. We are proud to provide our customers with classic but at the same time contemporary unique pieces, ”explains Shana, who opened the children’s boutique after the birth of her third daughter and shopping for children has become quite a hobby for her.
We asked Shana some questions about dreams and to show us her “dream outfits”.

Shana, tell us what your dreams were as a child.

Da piccola ero già molto fashionista. Venivo considerata una trend-setter un po’ esuberante. Penso che alcune cose non cambino mai! Non realizzando di essere un passo avanti, indossavo con disinvoltura scarpe con zeppa, borse a tracolla o stranissimi modelli di vestiti. Al di là degli stereotipi, ho sempre immaginato di diventare una famosissima fashion designer. Il mio lavoro non è molto distante da questo sogno… ma spero che un giorno (quando le bimbe saranno adulte) potrò ancora realizzarlo 😊.
As a small girl, I was already very much into fashion and dressing up. I was always a trend-setter and was considered to be a bit over-the-top. I guess some things never change! Not realizing that I was one step ahead, I would emerge in the newest platform shoes, cross-body bag, or some new-fangled shape or design. Although cliché, I always imagined I would become a famous fashion designer. I suppose my real-life job isn’t very far from my dream, but I hope that one day (when the kids are big and grown) to make it all the way😊.

Appena la mia testa incontra il cuscino quando faccio le ore piccole, sono troppo stanca per sognare. Ma sogno spesso ad occhi aperti. Quando mi viene in mente una nuova idea o sono ispirata da un progetto, mi metto a sognare incessantemente sugli sviluppi. Adesso mi sto concentrando sul portare Shana&Toad a un gradino successivo, e spesso mi ritrovo a pensare nuovi tragitti da esplorare. E l’idea di fondare la mia linea di abbigliamento si affaccia sempre nella mia mente, quindi state sintonizzati. 👗
By the time that my head hits that pillow in the wee hours of the night, I think I am too tired to dream. But I often day dream. When I come up with a new idea or am inspired to begin a new project, I often get stuck on it and can dream about it incessantly. Right now, I am focusing on taking Shan and Toad to the next level, so I find myself thinking/dreaming up new ideas and avenues to explore. I keep coming back to the idea of starting my very own fashion label, so you never know…

Il libro che ti hanno fatto sognare da bambina?
A book that made you dream as a child?

Sono rimasta affascinata dal più incredibile libro per bambini che esista, Che Idea? di Kobi Yamada. Non l’ho letto proprio da piccolina, ma sicuramente vi farà sognare ad ogni età. È la storia di un’idea brillante e di un bambino che aiuta quest’idea a venire al mondo. Appena il bambino acquista confidenza, lo stesso succede all’idea. Finché un giorno, succede qualcosa di incredibile… e l’idea diventa qualcosa di spettacolare. È un libro meraviglioso che è piaciuto a tutte le mie figlie e le ha emozionate molto. Riesce a trasmettere il messaggio che non ci sono idee troppo grandi, troppo piccole, troppo strane, troppo rischiose o difficili. Fino a quando coltivi un’idea e la lasci crescere, potrai fare cose brillanti. 📚
I’ve actually just gotten hooked on the most wonderful children’s book, What do You do with an Idea? by Kobi Yamada. It wasn’t around when I was a child, but it is sure to make you dream at any age. It is the story of a brilliant idea and a child who helps to bring this idea into the world. As the child’s confidence grows, so does this idea. Finally, one day, something incredible happens and the idea has grown to something larger than life, something spectacular. It is a wonderful book and I’ve found that my girls of all ages. The girls were mesmerized, truly touch, and absolutely inspired. (What followed was a lot of crafting, scrapping, gluing, and what-not.) This beautifully written and illustrated book manages to illuminate the concept that no idea is too big, too small, too odd, daring, or difficult. So long as you cultivate it and let it grow, you can create something brilliant.

Le mie ragazze hanno sempre idee e sogni che io tengo ad incoraggiare. Proprio adesso, una delle mie figlie ha il sogno di aprire un sito web per vendere i suoi braccialetti di perline e siamo tutti concentrati su questo sforzo. Non credo di aver mai aiutato qualcuno a realizzare qualcosa di grandioso, ma provo a far sì che le mie bambine possano concretizzare i loro sogni, che siano piccoli, grandi o nelle taglie di mezzo. 👧🏻
My girls are constantly coming up with ideas and dreams and I think it is critical to help foster these ideas, and encourage their creativity. Right now, one of my daughter’s dreams is to set up a website to sell her perla beads creations and we are very much focused on this endeavor. I don’t think I have managed to help anyone realize any grandiose dreams, but I hope that I facilitate and enable my little ones to realize their dreams, little, big, or any size in between.

Hmmm, domanda difficile. “Quando siete in dubbio, prendete tutto” è diventato il mio mantra. Ci sono molte cose che raccomanderei nel mercato del kidswear, diventa veramente difficile scegliere… credo che il mio armadio potrebbe esplodere. Sicuramente, potrei indossare qualche pezzo di Gris! Aggiungerei una cintura dai toni gelato di Yellow Pelota e concluderei con degli stivali o sandali di Maison Mangostan. Sono sicura agguanterei un cappotto Rainbow o Butterfly di Little Goodall . Ohhhh, e un vestito teddy-bear di Caroline Bosmans. Fortunatamente ho sei ragazze con cui condividere questi gusti. In questa casa non c’è scarsità di vestiti e accessori.👚👗
Hmmm… that’s a tough one to narrow down. When in doubt, take all is my mantra right now. There is so much cuteness on the kidswear market right now that I would have a difficult time choosing and I am afraid my closet would be overflowing. If I was still a child, I would definitely be wearing some Gris pieces! I would most likely pile on an ice cream belt from Yellow Pelota and top it off with a pair of chunky boots or sandals from Maison Mangostan. I am sure I would have snatched one of Little Goodall Rainbow or Butterfly coats too. Ohhhh, and a furry teddy bear dress from Caroline Bosmans. Lucky me, I have six girls to share the goodies with so that I could still channel the little girl vibes from within. There doesn’t ever seem to be a shortage of clothing or accessories in this home.

Adesso non ho molto tempo per pensarci devo dire, e sogno il momento in cui lo avrò. Comunque la mia vacanza da sogno includerebbe me, il mio maritino e le ragazze. Mi piacerebbe ritirarmi in una fattoria in campagna e spassarmela un pochino. Potremmo vagabondare, scollegarci da tutto e da tutti. 🌳🐓🐄
I don’t get to sit still that much, but I am dreaming of a time when I will. My dream vacation would have to include me, the hubby, and kids. I would love to retreat to a remote country-side farm-house and live off of the land for a bit. We could meander around, disconnected and un-tethered to anyone or anything.

Mi considero fortunata a far parte di questa nicchia dell’industria del kidswear, dove l’immaginazione e la creatività trovano spesso molto spazio. Incontro persone emotivamente positive e innovative. Ogni volta che visito le fiere mi sento sempre incoraggiata, stimolata ed entusiasta. D’altro canto la vita a casa è molto caotica, sempre di corsa, ma divertente. Quindi, credo di aver incontrato la mia giusta porzione di persone creative. Ovviamente se si presentasse l’opportunità, mi piacerebbe incontrare qualsiasi attivista nel campo del femminismo e dell’uguaglianza dei diritti delle donne. Sto nutrendo un piccolo esercito di femministe in casa, e sto instillando in loro l’idea che l’unico limite è il cielo. Se dovessi aggiungere qualcuno alla lista, vorrei incontrare Meghan Markle. È proprio la più cool! Portamento, grazia, bellezza e impegni sociali sono molto d’ispirazione. 🧝‍♀️🧞‍♂️🙎🏻‍♀️
I consider myself fortunate to be in this niche kidswear industry, where imaginations run wild and creativity is second nature to most. I meet the most creative minds, motivational beings, and innovative people. I leave trade fairs or business meetings very much intrigued, stimulated, encouraged, and enthused. Besides, home life is very lively and chaotic, always rousing and fun, and of course, entertaining. So… I think I have met my fair share of dreamy people. Of course, I would jump at the opportunity of meeting any of the movers/shakers in the movement to encourage feminism and woman’s equality. I am breeding an army of feminists of my own, instilling in them the idea that the sky’s the limit. If I should like to add someone to thte list, I would love to meet Meghan Markle. She is just the coolest! Her poise, grace, beauty, and social commitments are quite inspirational.
