Paolo Roversi's Doubts exhibition opens at MOP Foundation

The photographer reminds us that doubt is where beauty begins

There are photographers whose work you admire. And then there are photographers whose images make you stop scrolling. Paolo Roversi belongs firmly in the second category.
Here at Scimparello, we’re unapologetically biased. Every time one of his photographs appears in our research, our moodboards or simply across our desks, we all seem to pause for a little longer. His pictures don’t shout for attention, they whisper. And somehow, that makes them impossible to ignore.

Perhaps that’s why Doubts, the new exhibition at the MOP Foundation in A Coruña, feels less like a retrospective and more like an invitation to slow down. In an industry obsessed with speed, trends and perfection, Roversi has spent decades doing almost the opposite. His photographs don’t chase the moment, they suspend it.
Faces emerge from darkness. Fabrics dissolve into light. Time seems to stretch. Looking at a Roversi image often feels like remembering a dream you never actually had.
That’s a rare gift.

An ethereal photograph by Paolo Roversi depicting a barely visible figure behind translucent fabric, creating a soft, abstract composition in muted blue-grey tones.

The title couldn’t be more fitting. For Paolo Roversi, doubt isn’t uncertainty, it’s possibility. Rather than presenting a chronological overview, the exhibition unfolds through twelve interconnected spaces exploring recurring themes in his work: Theatre, Appearances, Shadows, People, Presence, Grace, Beauty, Fading and, of course, Doubts itself.
Together they create something that feels surprisingly intimate, as though visitors are stepping inside the photographer’s creative process instead of simply looking at finished pictures.

A destination worth travelling for
Hosted by the MOP Foundation, Doubts is the kind of exhibition that rewards curiosity, not only with extraordinary photography but with a deeper understanding of one of fashion’s most poetic visual storytellers. If you’re planning a summer trip to Spain, consider making a detour to A Coruña.

Not just to see fashion photography. But to be reminded that sometimes the most beautiful ideas begin with a question instead of an answer.
