When I first saw Minor Threat!, the first thing that came to mind was Sia. Maybe it was the wigs, maybe those strong looks, or that slightly theatrical, slightly rebellious energy that runs through the whole story.
Then I thought of myself as a little girl, standing in front of my mum’s wardrobe. I tried on her dresses that were far too long and her shoes that were far too big, and imagined being someone else. Me, for example, I wanted to become an opera singer.
And that is exactly what I love about Minor Threat!. The girls play with everything: vintage evening gowns and boxing gloves, colourful wigs and fabric crowns, Thai boxing shorts and red liquorice. There are no rules, and there shouldn’t be.
Because when children dress up, they take pieces of different worlds and invent one that is all their own.
A little bit queens, a little bit boxers, a little bit pop stars.
