Case di cose: every home tells a story
Matita launches a new illustrated children's book by Valentina Grignoli and Milly Miljkovic. A poetic journey through houses, objects and the stories they tell.
Some children collect stickers. Others collect pebbles, feathers, buttons or mysterious treasures found on the way home from school. The young explorer at the heart of Case di cose, the fifth title from independent publishing house Matita, collects something even more unusual: clues about people hidden inside their homes.
Arriving in bookstores in September 2026, Case di cose is written by Valentina Grignoli and illustrated by Milly Miljkovic. It is a charming picture book that invites readers to look beyond walls, doors and windows, discovering that every house is much more than bricks and a roof. In fact, it might just be a giant portrait of the people who live inside.
Armed with a notebook and a healthy dose of curiosity, the story’s young protagonist sets off on a neighbourhood expedition. Through half-open windows and architectural details, he imagines the lives unfolding behind each façade. There is the house of coffee makers, where guests probably never stop arriving. The house of stools seems occupied by people too busy to sit still. And then there is the house of glasses, where every pair of spectacles offers a different way of looking at the world.
Poetic, thoughtful and full of wonder, Case di cose reminds us that understanding people sometimes starts with noticing the things they choose to keep. Because, after all, everyone collects something.
