Playdate Vintage
One-of-a-Kind Clothes for Curious Kids
text Petra Barkhof
Some clothes feel almost too perfect to touch. Playdate Vintage feels different. Softer. Lived-in. Made for children who climb into old vans, run through gardens and come home with dusty knees and pockets full of treasures.
Founded by Seattle-based designer Katie Lewandowski, the brand began in 2020 while sewing clothes for her young son using fabrics from her own wardrobe. A vintage wool skirt became a cozy toddler jacket, and slowly a whole world started to grow from reclaimed textiles, thrifted finds and forgotten fabrics waiting for a second life.
Every Playdate Vintage piece is still designed, cut and sewn by Katie in her backyard studio in Seattle, Washington. Because the fabrics are always changing, most collections are released only once. No mass production, no endless repeats, just singular pieces shaped by whatever treasures she happens to discover.
The clothes themselves are beautifully unfussy. Easy silhouettes, natural fibers like wool, cotton and linen, and playful details that never feel overdesigned. Contrasting trims, vintage patches and unexpected color combinations give each garment its own personality.
What makes the brand so special is that sustainability never feels forced. It simply exists naturally within the process. The limitations of using only existing textiles become part of the creativity itself.
And perhaps that’s why Playdate Vintage feels so refreshing: clothing made slowly, thoughtfully and with enough character to grow alongside the children wearing it.
