Rugged isles, where fishermen return in the morning with the night’s catch, where goats clamber the side of rocky snow-capped mountains, where adventures are to be found with friends among wild, wind-swept nature—this is the imagined inspiration for the Dsquared2 Kids’ 2023 collection.
Built for protecting against the elements, outerwear also creates stylish layers. A toggled parka for boys has a faux shearling lined hood and for girls’ a faux fur vest, or an oversized shirt-jacket in red, white, and black check also lined in faux shearling. Nylon puffers with oversized shoulders and in block of colours: green, yellow, and red have a striped ribbed button cardigan style detail.
These pieces are worn together with Dsquared2 essentials in new proportions. Curved jeans with patch pockets, wide-leg cotton canvas chinos, sweatshirts with oversized pockets, camouflage jackets and T-shirts with macro graphics of volcanos and the earth. Lace-up hiking boots, open snow faux shearling tan boots with red laces, and faux fur sandals slipped into long socks complete the looks.
Folksy dresses and shirred blouses with embroidery worn over leggings and printed mid-length dresses are layered with faux shearling vests. Retro Nordic style knits feature outdoor scenes, stripes or llamas and bands of paper dolls.
About the Brand
Dean and Dan Caten, twin brothers from Willowdale in Toronto, started their path in fashion at the Parson’s school of design in New York City in 1984. Eight years later, the Canadian duo moved to Italy with their sights set on creating their brand. After collaborating with some of Italy’s most celebrated fashion houses, in 1995 the designers presented their first men’s collection under the label Dsquared2. Their philosophy is an edgy mix of Canadian iconography, refined Italian tailoring and playful design. The collections are a seamless melding of contrasts: sporty and glamorous, laidback and extravagant, masculine and feminine, creating a distinctive concept of alternative luxury. Dean and Dan divide their lives between Milan and London, and the Dsquared2 collections are produced in Italy, giving rise to the brand’s motto of “born in Canada, made in Italy”
